Phylogenetic relationship among Valsa ceratosperma species complex reconstructed from ITS sequences. V. ceratosperma sensu lato is not a monophyletic group with respect to V. malicola. The lineage of V. ceratosperma sensu Kobayashi (Adams et al. 2005) was recognized as V. mali (Wang et al. 2011, 2014) within which a cryptic species, V. pyri, was further recognized based on multi-gene phylogenetic analysis (Wang et al. 2014)
