UvMsn2 is important for conidial germination in Ustilaginoidea virens. Conidia of the wild-type HWD-2, ΔUvmsn2 and ΔUvmsn2/UvMSN2 strains were incubated in liquid YTS medium. Examination of conidial germination under a microscopy was performed at 0, 2, 6, 10, 12, 16, 20 and 24 h after incubation. The number at the last column represents the percentage of multiple germ tubes of the indicated strains at 24 h after incubation. The mean values ±SD were calculated from three independent experiments, and asterisk indicates a statistically significant difference from the wild-type strain (P < 0.01)
