Expression of apple defense-related genes in response to inoculation with WT (1104-6) (black bar) or Δhos2-4 mutant (grey bar) at 24 and 48 hours post-inoculation (hpi). Expressions were determined by RT-qPCR, and relative expression values were calculated relative to WT at 24 hpi. Error bar indicates standard deviation based on three independent technical replicates, and ‘*’ indicates statistically significant difference (P < 0.05) relative to WT at the corresponding time point based on two-tailed t-test with ΔCt values. Similar gene expression patterns were obtained with independent experiments
